Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) drugs are synthetic hormones used to treat symptoms of menopause in women. They help treat the side effects caused by the decrease in natural estrogen and progesterone hormones including hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness.

Yes, HRT drugs have been linked an increase in certain types of cancers including:

Has the FDA warned against possible side effects of HRT drugs?

Yes. In 2003 the FDA requested that labels on estrogen and progestin replacement therapy include a black box warning stating an increased risk of heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, and breast cancer. This warning also stated that the products are not approved for the prevention of heart disease.
